Penumbral Eclipse of July 5, 2020

Description

As the fireworks of American Independence Day died down, the Moon's northern hemisphere scraped Earth's penumbra, the outermost reaches of the shadow where the Sun is partially hidden. As a result, less light reaches that part of the Moon and causes it to appear slightly darker. The difference is hard to see live, but comparing images from during and after the eclipse shows a slight change of brightness in the northern hemisphere.
